Best of the Best Accessories: Veteran

I love this shot of a chic Italian woman by The Sartorialist. I have included a few versions of the cool lace-up shoes she is wearing in this post  in an effort to recreate this outfit. Unfortunately that amazing jumpsuit looks like it is one of a kind.

These vintage cross earrings provide the perfect pop of color. If you are a maximalist then you would probably pair them with something like the floral jumpsuit pictured above. Personally I would style these with an understated monochrome look.

I am still bummed neither pair of  Lanvin sandals came in my size. If I owned the pair on the right I would never take them off.

Lace-up flats by Helmut Lang! The velvet is a perfect transition into Fall.

These Robert Clergerie ankle boots are a Fall must have. Picture: white skinny jeans , camel coat, and croc bag. How cool are those contrasting soles? You could probably even get away with wearing them in on a nice summer night . . .

To a room with some lace and paper flowers

Jessica Stam in Vogue UK November 2010 by by Lina Scheynius I love the way photographer Lina Scheynius captures ntimacy and quiet in her work. The two vintage Oscar de la Renta jacket’s I am sharing here have the same romantic vibes as one of her photographs, the feeling that comes with dressing up just to hang out in your bedroom alone and watch the sunrise. Beautiful lace and embroidered...

Designer Knits

“The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco” This past weekend, after preparing for a sale at our Studio City location, I left for San Francisco. As a notorious over-packer I expected to (once again) be teased about  all the extra clothes I was lugging around. However this trip, as I huddled into my coat and groaned about the cold wind hitting my ears I...

The Basket Weave

When you think luxury does the term “understated” come to mind? The other week I wrote about “clothes worthy of their label” and in the spirit of labels that emphasize design I would like to share these Bottega Veneta accessories from this week’s sale at our Fairfax location. The Bottega Veneta basket weave is a frequently reproduced, popular style and technique...

“Clothes Worthy of Their Label”

At the past two “Best of the Best” sales I noticed a handful of Gianni Versace vintage pieces and they all bore different tags. Because the Versace Atelier has been around since 1989 there is a noticeable progression in the design of Versace tags which can make it difficult to identify if a piece is genuine or a copy. After this weeks sale at the Venice store I had officially come...

Groove Is in the Heart: A Revival of Psychedelic 90′s Style

When you think of 90′s fashion what comes to mind? Personally I imagine  flannel and those big white sunglasses Kurt Cobain used to wear. Well in the early 90′s, before grunge became a “thing”, fashion had everything to do with the “club scene”. The look of the time was personified by Lady Miss Kier of the American band Deee-Lite. Look up the video for their...

“MCGINLEY: Those words—reduction and minimalism—mean very different things, but people think they are very similar. But reduction is about reducing, pairing things down, taking away. COSTA: What bothers me about the term minimalist is that it is so connected with a distinct period. It links me to the past. But I design for today.” — Francisco Costa interviewed by Ryan...

Holiday in the Sun

Obviously 4th of July is no where near as important as say Halloween on the costume scale but it still has a certain dress code. Though it is not like St. Patrick’s Day when the wearing of green is violently enforced, it is still likely that you will feel out of place if you are not wearing something navy, red, or white. While all white outfits are easily the chicest (I am still on the hunt...

Play Clothes

Model poses at Disneyland, California, 1963 Photo by Jeanloup Sieff Lately I have been trying to focus on purchasing professional separates that would be appropriate and comfortable during the summer. Try as I might, the sad truth is I get distracted easily and have a hard time saying no to a (yet another) striped shirt. The photograph above illustrates my ideal outfit. I love clothes that you...

vintage Armani flats  Today I attended a photography exhibit that got me thinking about the role of narrative in fashion. Ultimately fashion photography, no matter how artistic,  is intended to sell clothes.  I have trouble coming up with new ways to discuss  the clothes I come across on a weekly basis so you can imagine my awe of photographers who can convey an original story in a...
