Shop Smart

One of the best things about living in Los Angeles is that the seasons are sparse. You can easily curate a wardrobe that works year round with just a few items limited to just Summer or Winter. This freedom from extreme weather also means that you can take advantage of season sales and buy coveted clothing that won’t be sitting in your closet until it gets warm or cold again.

For the past two Januaries I have taken advantage of “End of Winter” sales by indulging in my love for boots. I must admit last year I went a little nutso but this time around I was less crazed and only bought one pair- my much love Mars boots by Rachel Comey. These past two weeks, first at the Studio City Store and then at Veteran I have been lucky to come across designer boots for every kind of shoe fiend. I hope our customers are like me and using this time of the year to buy some envy inducing footwear.

“I love daisies…They’re so friendly. Don’t you think that daisies are the friendliest flowers?”

- “You’ve Got Mail”

I know this is a bit of stretch but please bear with me . . . There is this scene in the movie “You’ve Got Mail” when Tom Hanks ( or his character) realizes finally realizes  he’s in love with Meg Ryan. To make up for his past wrongdoings he brings her a bouquet of daisies to cheer her up when she is sick.  I’m not exactly sure why but Meg Ryans expression when she is gifted the flowers  always comes to my mind when I find clothing that makes me happy.

In fashion the idea of looking “chic” is eternally associated with the color black. Black is pretty much foolproof and guaranteed to make you look slimmer and more put-together. But maybe because I wasn’t allowed to wear black growing up  I am naturally predisposed buy things with color and patterns. Floral prints , embellishments, and all sorts of things that can easily look tacky make me smile.  Don’t you think floral print Prada heels are the friendliest shoes?

Vintage Gianni Versace  star-burst print shorts

I hope these pieces from the Studio City sale last week and this weeks upcoming sale at the Veteran cheer you up on this dismal weekend!

New Beginnings

Hello, Welcome back everyone! I hope you had a pleasant winter holiday and are ready to . . . start shopping once again!! The first “Best of the Best” sale of the year started this morning ( 8 am to be exact) at the North Fairfax store . This one is especially near and dear to me not only  because of this stores proximity to my home but because I decorated and dressed the main windows for the sale.  I must confess I was a little intimidated to work with a space that is exposed to so much foot traffic but it gave me the chance to share my favorite find . . . CÉLINE LOAFERS.

Although I am a casual follower of the cult of Phoebe Philo I still got pretty down once I realized these beauties are no where near my size . . .As you can see from the images below ( top via Decade Diary  and bottom via Stop it Right Now) this vintage incarnation is very much what is currently going on at the fashion house.

Since this sale was especially epic I’m going to break down posts by accessories and clothing. Luckily for you some of the jewelry I am featuring can be found on the NCJWLA ebay starting next week!

Be sure to look for these vintage clip on earrings by Givenchy and Moschino on ebay.

I was drawn to these vintage silver stingray shaped clip-ons. They are also signed but need a good cleaning to figure them out.

This  modern leather, Hermes inspired double cuff will also be up on ebay.

What can I say? 2013 at Council Thrift is off to an amazing start. Stay tuned for clothing from this weeks sale in the following posts.
