Fly Girl

“Back in the day” (the day in question being the 90′s) a “Fly Girl” was a sort of back-up dancer/taste maker on the show “In Living Color”. J.Lo started out as a “Fly Girl” . . .When I think of the term in context of today’s music landscape I use it to talk about a female electronic artist like M.I.A or even better French recording artist Yelle. Girls who can pull of wearing loud clothes with kicks because they have attitude. What current female artists to performers from decades ago is an empowered fearlessness exemplified in their clothes, moves, and all over spirit. This past sale at Canoga Park I spotted a few separates that belong to the “fly-est” of girls.

Summer Love

Two for the Road

I really love the idea of pairing these ankle boots with the vintage Gucci sweater dress from this weeks sale at the Pico store. I know it is never too early to start planning for Fall but I would love to mimic this outfit on a cool summer night. Inspired by street style pictures of the infamous chunky Dries Van Noten sweater, I think boots would complete the nonchalant spirit of the look. I think I may attempt this with my own Gap sweater dress and Repetto boots . . .pictures forthcoming!

Vagabond Worthy

In anticipation of this weeks sale at the North Fairfax store I dropped by yesterday to start shooting the many goodies that go on-sale Saturday at 8am. I’ll admit that coming in super early has it’s disadvantages( it’s intimidating to look through everything when it’s all piled up and eye catching ),  but even so I was enchanted by pieces that whispered to me of gypsy travels and dark shadowed rooms in the summertime. The combination of Isabel Marant dresses (!), leather boots, and beaded costume-y vintage things had me imagining drawing rooms, market places, and just anywhere exotic seeming.

Can’t wait to shoot part 2 of the preview tomorrow!
